What Are Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in Pool Water?

Total dissolved solids are the combined ‘stuff’ that is dissolved in the pool water, including organics (oils from sweat, chemicals from skincare products, etc.), and inorganics (e.g. dissolved minerals). While not as necessary to regularly adjust as the other parameters, having a record of TDS will help to diagnose issues if changes in your water behavior – like increased chlorine demand – take place.

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
500 – 2000 ppm

FAQ

What are total dissolved solids (TDS) in a swimming pool?

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) refer to all dissolved materials in pool water, including minerals, oils, and organic contaminants.

The recommended TDS level for pools is between 500 and 2000 ppm.

While TDS does not require frequent adjustments, tracking levels can help diagnose problems such as increased chlorine demand or water balance issues.
